        The Mercado Central de Atarazanas is a municipal market in Málaga. The current building, the work of the architect Joaquín de Rucoba, was built between 1876 and 1879 on the site of a naval workshop of Nasrid origin, of which only a marble door remains and where the name comes from: shipyard.

However, all that remains of this original building is the imposing 25-meter-high marble gate (Puerta nazarí). The Mercado Central de Atarazanas also takes its name from the shipyard ("ataranza"), which it still uses today.

                              Fresh, fragrant goods of all kinds and of the highest quality. Fish, prawns and seafood, Iberian ham, dried fruit, fruit and vegetables. All ultra-fresh, collected by very friendly sellers in the small stalls of the market hall.
                              We ate exquisitely at a reasonable price: tuna skewers with vegetables, octopus and giant prawns from the grill. With sweet wine, bread and patatas. Everything was wonderfully coated with the herb and garlic marinade.

                                                A fantastic market where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, cured meats, and even spices. The building itself is also very charming and highly recommended if you want to experience Málaga and its local specialties.

                                                Olives are available in all sorts of varieties, fresh as well as preserved in jars or vacuum-packed.

                                                The fish market is closed on Mondays.
