The old Moorish fortifications can be easily reached on foot from the center of Málaga. A walk around the fortress walls offers a great view of the city. If you want to get in, you have to pay an entrance fee, there are always interesting exhibitions in the rooms of the palace

The Alcazaba of Malaga is located on a hill above town. Above is the castle Gibralfaro, whose associated fortress was Alcazaba. Both systems therefore form a single entity
Its beginnings date back to the middle of the 11th century. It was built by the Moorish Sultan Bādīs, who ruled from 1038-1073. Badis used the Alcazaba as both a palace and a fortress.
However, the mosque inside the fortress dates back to the 14th century. As a result of a siege by Napoleon Bonaparte, the fortress was partially destroyed and abandoned, but later rebuilt. Through the gate "Puerta del Christo" the visitor enters a fascinating labyrinth of corridors, arches and even gardens with fountains. A number of rooms in the facility are now used for special exhibitions. There is also an archaeological museum in the fortress.
A tour along the fortified walls with a magnificent view over Malaga and its harbor should not be missed.

This fortress-palace whose name means citadel in Arabic is one of the historical monuments of the city, a highly visited space combining history and beauty in the same place. Dating back to the Islamic period, it is located at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro, where the Arab defensive castle is located, to which it was connected by a corridor protected by walls called La Coracha. Next to the Roman Theater and in front of the Customs Building, it is an opportunity to see, just a few meters away, the union of Roman, Arab and Renaissance cultures, which makes this corner a very special place. Built between 1057 and 1063 according to Muslim historians at the request of the Berber taifa king of Granada, Badis. Drag materials were used in its construction and pieces from the annexed Roman theater were reused, such as columns and capitals.
