The businessman Oluf Bager, who traded e.g. bulls and clothing. had the building built in 1586 in Odense on the remains of an older farm that had belonged to his mother's family.

The building has been rebuilt and expanded several times since its construction. In the late 18th century the rear building, called the yellow warehouse, was built. In 1772 Christian Gormsen Biering set up a printing house in the buildings, in which the first edition of the newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende was printed.

In 1919, Oluf Bager's farm was listed as a historical monument. The Odense Municipality took over the building complex in the 1930s.

In 2003 the building was bought by Realdania Byg, who initiated a major renovation that has largely restored the building to its original Renaissance style. The renovation was completed in May 2005 and the building is now used as the residence of Realdania Byg. The Oluf Bagers Gård restaurant is located in a former barn in the warehouse building.

Oluf Bager was a wealthy and influential merchant who lived in the 16th century. He was a key player in Odense's commercial life and owned several properties in the city.

The farm's main building, an impressive two-story half-timbered house, was built around 1586. The farm complex also includes a 17th-century west wing and a south wing, which originally consisted of a stable and a barn.
The farm is an outstanding example of Renaissance merchant architecture in Denmark. The rich ornamentation of the half-timbered building testifies to the owner's wealth.
