In the course of the 1880s, the Italian-Gothic inspired town hall was built according to designs and plans by the architects Herholdt and Lendorf. This happened in the same place where Odense's oldest, much smaller town hall had already stood 400 years earlier.

Odense Town Hall, located in the vibrant heart of Odense, has served as the city's administrative and political center since its construction between 1881 and 1883. The building replaced the old town hall, which had been built 400 years earlier.

Over the centuries, Odense Town Hall has witnessed many important events in the city's history and played a central role in the life of the community.

Today, Odense Town Hall still serves as an important administrative center.

It houses the mayor's office, the city council chamber,
where the city council meets, and various municipal offices. In addition to serving as a workplace for municipal employees, the town hall is also a popular venue for weddings and other celebratory events. Its historic charm and central location make it an attractive venue for locals and visitors alike.

Odense Town Hall was designed by the architects J.D. Herholdt and Carl Lendorf, it is an outstanding example of the Italianate Gothic architectural style popular in the late 19th century. The newer extension, designed by Helweg-Møller, was inaugurated in 1955. The town hall features countless architectural details designed by Helweg-Møller, from fittings and door hinges to lamps and railings, whose design is inspired by the ribbed stems of the hogweed.

A visit to the town hall is also an artistic experience. In the town hall hall, Yan's work "Fynsk Forår" adorns an entire end wall, and throughout the building, you will find paintings, sculptures, and reliefs by renowned artists such as Keld Moseholm, Kurt Trampedach, and others.
