Beautiful bronze sculpture from 2013 by Bernd Streiter in honor of the Schwerin original, street sweeper and casual worker August Felten (1852–1931). The work is officially called “August Felten find a penny”. The saying “Rain brings blessings” can also be read on the penny from the Weimar Republic period. The sign says about August Felten: “He made people smile with his quick wit and dry humor. In 1924 it even became a postcard motif. He was liked and teased. He joked and raved, and time and time again he did his work accurately - with his self-tied brushwood broom.”

Almost every Schwerin resident knows it, the statue of the street sweeper
“Oll Felten” on Marienplatz. But who was Agust Felten?

The people of Schwerin simply called him “Oll Felten” because of his calm, humorous manner and his self-confidence.

He had the mentality of a loner and was as hardworking as a factory worker.

Every day “Oll Felten” went to the goat market to take his self-determined break. Often enough, he and his mouth went crazy, but he was very popular with the people of Schwerin
and he was sometimes treated to a brandy.

All the people of Schwerin generously overlooked his rough manner,

because they knew that August Felten had a good heart.

Felten received the money for his work from the city, he himself could not write an official invoice and so he wrote on a small piece of paper: “Fief Mark”.
The city trusted him and so he got his money every time without complaint.

On November 12, 1931, August Felten died at the age of 79, at which time the whole of Schwerin knew him. August Felten lived in poverty all those years, he made no great inventions, he didn't write his own book, but the people of Schwerin always remembered the old "Oll Felten" with his very special way.
For this reason, in 2013 he got his own statue here on Marienplatz.
