The first documented record of this mill dates back to the 15th century. At that time, Lord von Horst gave a number of goods to John of Burgundy, including some mills. It is not known where exactly they stood, but the predecessor of this mill was probably among them.

As late as the 17th century, the mill belonged to the so-called poor table of the Holy Spirit in Aarschot. This meant that the poor could have flour milled for free – hence the name.

The current mill house dates from 1761. If you look closely, you will find the number 1791 - because when the mill was last repaired, the 6 was turned upside down.

When the Winge was straightened in the sixties, the old foundations of the Heilige-Geestmolen were exposed. These foundations consisted of a wickerwork of oak beams that probably supported several successive mill buildings.

In old documents from the abbey of 't Park we read about the borders of Nieuw Rhode and Sint Peeters Rhode: ... around 1460 the mill of the H. Geest was built, through which the mill stream was brought into that leybeke and the also changes its name each time, as a result of which the whole of Rhoden Broeck has begun to be said to lie over the mill stream on some other grounds, which previously were not and were not and subsequently not and were nor under the spiritual jurisdiction of New Rhode, where they were now under are.

According to Charles Millet's 'Kronijk van Aarschot', a new mill was built in 1597. It was covered with straw and contained only one wheel and one water passage. In the 17th century it was still the property of the poor table of the Holy Spirit. The map book of the abbey of 't Park contains an image of the surroundings of the H-Geestmoleken of Arschot.

The current mill house was built in 1761, as the dating of the wall anchors still indicates. In the second half of the 19th century, the mill was owned by the heirs of Franciscus Josephus Verhaegen, a rentier from Brussels. The road leading to it was then called Molenstraat (1860).

The mill wheel stopped turning in 1935. The wheel was used to restore the Gempe mill. The interior was taken over by a Leuven professor.
