The mill is located on the Molenbeek, near the confluences with the Sassenbeek, the Kraaiwinkelbeek and the Wingebeek. The valley is a swampy, beautiful walking area that connects with the Troostenbergbos freely accessible to walkers. The vast Gempe pond attracts many species of waterfowl.
De Gempemolen is a resting point for walkers and cyclists who either choose the GR footpath or simply want to walk or cycle between De Moedermeule in Gelrode, the castle of Horst or along the Jan-Primus route. The signposted cycling route "de Gemperoute" has the Gempemolen as its starting point.
