The former Imperial Post Office from 1883 on the Schuhmarkt is a good example of public buildings from around 1900. The design was by Prof. Hubert Stier from Hanover. Today it serves as the "Imperial Post Office" hotel.

In 1883, the contractor Herzog bought three plots of land and immediately demolished the buildings on them. Immediately afterwards, the foundation stone was laid for the imperial post office. The architect Prof. H. Stier was commissioned by the Technical University in Hanover. He designed the building in the style of historicism with a reinforced concrete skeleton construction.

The façade elements made of cast concrete used for this purpose were still available in 1910 and thus the extension cultivation on the shoe market side could easily be cited.

There are 3 different sandstone emblems on the tower. In the middle of the building is the coat of arms of the former Imperial Post Office, to the left of the shoe market a bundle with jagged lightning as a symbol for the telegraphy and on the right to Blutstraße the imperial posthorn can be seen.

The building was used until 1993 as a post office and telecommunications office. After the political change it became the possession of the German Telekom, as legal successor of the post office of the GDR, over. At that time, the Grade II listed house was in poor condition, after which it was refurbished in the following years.

Until 2005, there was no new owner for the venerable building. The idea of turning the post office into a brewery & hotel was well received in 2006. After a change of ownership and a further thorough renovation, during which the attic floor was also converted into hotel rooms, the brewery Parchim reopened its doors on 1 September 2012.
