The museum offers visitors a walk-in exhibition of representative objects related to Freemasonry. The focus of the presentation is on the historical development of the brotherhood from construction work to speculative freemasonry, its understanding of order and ritual, as well as the internal customs, shown in the admission process and the social gathering.

The unique library is the heart of the museum association and has been a central place for researching Masonic literature since it was founded over 100 years ago. It is scientifically networked with the university libraries in Bayreuth and Poznan.

The museum's archive contains evidence of the history and fraternal organization of all German Masonic lodges. Its certificates, documents and membership lists bear witness to the Masonic idea of the brothers' exemplary, humane coexistence.

In 1989, the German Masonic Museum was the initiator of the Working Group of European Masonic Museums, now AMMLA. In this network of Masonic institutions, it maintains contact with Masonic and scientific institutions in the world.
