The former water pipe to Aschaffenburg Castle begins at the Brunnenstube on the border of the two Haibach districts “Unterer Sponacker” and “Engelswiesen”. The line was built between 1514 and 1536 by Cardinal Elector and Archbishop of Mainz Albrecht of Brandenburg. Even back then, high demands were placed on the drinking water for Aschaffenburg Castle. Priorities were assigned to the purity of the water. Thick sandstone walls and heavy oak doors on the fountain rooms protected against unauthorized access. The entire complex, which is 3,250 meters long, is not shown on any map in order to protect it from access. The primary buyers for the water were the castle and public buildings. The townspeople had no water rights to the pipe.
In the 1960s, the well room was filled with overburden. After its founding in 1997, the Haibach local and historical association took over the fountain room, and in 1998 the oldest building in the Haibach district was placed under monument protection. The local history and history association then began exposing, securing, restoring and reconstructing the building. The project was carried out in 2001 and 2002.
