The estate was developed around 1865 by Louis A Speculo, scion of a Tienen notary family. A small castle was built in neo-Gothic style. This building, on a square plan, had four octagonal corner turrets with battlements. In 1895, another bay was added and a service building was also expanded into a farmyard with a monumental coach house. Behind the castle is a park with a pond.

The 'a Speculo' family was originally called Vanderspiegelen. Because this did not sound very chic, the family changed the name Verspaansen to 'a Speculo'. They are certainly not the first family to change their name to seem more important.

The castle could be visited on the Open Monument Day of 2024. In addition to the castle, actually a country house since it was painted white in the 1970s, there is a coach house and domain with a pond and modern art. At the location of the coach house there used to be a service building. This was expanded in 1895 into a farmyard with a monumental coach house wing.

Louis A Speculo, scion of a prominent Tienen notary family, built a neo-Gothic castle around 1865, extended by a bay in 1895. The service building was then extended into a farmyard with a monumental coach house and a walled vegetable garden of 13.5 ares. Surrounded by a landscaped park with a pond; originally less than 3 hectares, later extended to 10.5 hectares.
