Below the dam bridge, you can feel the hand of Fritz Schumacher at this point. Architecturally strictly composed.

Fritz Schumacher's Alster Canalization project below the Fuhlsbüttel lock was not uncontroversial. It went back and forth between natural and strict architectural lines. Both have been made, that's the charm of the lower Alster.

Between Hindenburgstraße and Alsterdorfer Damm you can walk on one of the most beautiful sections of the Alsterwanderweg near the city. The Alster is here on both sides lined with beautiful old weeping willows. During the felling season, I keep my fingers crossed every year that none of the glorious giants of the chainsaw fall victim. Unfortunately, the Herwart, the last heavy autumn storm, has also left its mark here.
