Penguins as a symbol and symbol of the city park
Six penguin figures by August Gaul (1869-1921) squat around a murmuring fountain on a small octagonal fountain trough placed in a larger basin. The original bronzes and replicas of the penguins have been destroyed and even stolen several times in the past decades. In the winter months, these Antarctic seabirds get a "roof over their heads" on the spot so that they can survive the Hamburg winters safely.
