Nice free campground with shaded picnic tables, fireplaces, bathrooms, no water. Great views of the Carrizo plain below: It's about 4 miles gradual uphill on firm gravel Caliente Mountain road from the intersection with the paved Soda Lake Road just south of the Painted Rock visitor center. A single track continues uphill and meets up with Caliente Mountain Road to Caliente Mountain Ridge, or you can continue on the gravel all the way up.
