The coastal museum, Bangsbo Fort, is located at a height of 82 meters and offers a fantastic view over Frederikshavn and the Kattegat.
On a clear day, you can see Skagen, Sæby, and Læsø.
The fort consists of a fortification built by the German occupying forces during World War II and expanded by the Danish Navy during the Cold War.

Bangsbo Fort was therefore used during two historical periods. This distinguishes
the fort from other German fortifications in Denmark. The fort consists of 80 concrete structures, 70 of which were built during World War II. The last 10 bunkers were built in 1950 by the Navy, which still owns and uses a small part of the fort.

The Bunker Museum displays the part of the fort not used by the Navy
and has so far put 20 bunkers into use.
At least half of these are accessible during the museum's opening hours. The museum offers free German-language guided tours.

An extensive facility. When you walk up from Pikkerbakken, you can see clearly more than when you drive up in the car. Many bunkers are freely accessible and can be visited free of charge. The guide bunker at the museum costs 70 DKK. If you don't mind the sheep's droppings, you can spend the whole day up here on Bangsbo.

A large area with countless bunkers, freely accessible and must be explored on foot. The most impressive are the large naval gun bunkers in the mountainside, which still house the original guns, French models from the 1920s. The gun breechblocks are missing, allowing one to see through the barrels and see the spiral grooves that gave the shells their stabilizing spin. Today, sheep graze peacefully here, appreciating the coolness of the artificial caves in the heat of the sun. Swallows fly around, having built their nests well protected within the enclosures.
