The source of the Lindenbach is at around 476 m above sea level near Solitude Castle in the area of the state capital Stuttgart. It initially flows through the forest as a valley ditch in a northeasterly direction through the Lindental to the eastern edge of the Weilimdorf district. There, before the western part of the Lemberg Ridge, it turns briefly to the west in a long, culverted course and then to the northwest as far as the transformer station south of the Grüner Heiner.
