          "The Erft rises a few kilometers south of Bad Münstereifel, where near the towns of Frohngau and Holzmühlheim, a good 400 meters above sea level, groundwater from the mountains flows down the foot of the Eifel as a stream. Having become a river, the Erft crosses the flat Börden landscape from Euskirchen in the middle of wide fields, flows past villages, small towns, lignite excavators and large power plants, also through recultivated landscapes with new forests and lakes. After 104 kilometers, it flows into the Rhine near Neuss at a height of just 26 meters above sea level."

                The Erft is a 106.6 km long, southwestern, left tributary of the Rhine. It flows through three districts and their respective district capitals; downstream, these are: Euskirchen district with Euskirchen, Rhein-Erft district with Bergheim, and Rhein-Kreis Neuss district with Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia.
