The dilapidated Schmerwitz Castle near Wiesenburg exudes a morbid charm. Originally built in 1736 by Carl Friedrich Brandt von Lindau as a simple three-winged palace, it was partially expanded in the neo-Baroque style between 1871 and 1873. A fire destroyed the south wing in 1892. The richly decorated rear facade was added at the beginning of the 20th century. After 1945, the castle served as a training center for the Soviet Army; subsequent renovations up until the 1980s paid little attention to its historical substance. Since reunification, it has stood empty and decaying.

ハイキング
The entire area with the large, spooky manor and the entire vacant buildings from GDR times looks very ghostly and steals only the reflection of past, living times. Only the green gazebo in the garden defends steadfastly against the decay and exudes a kind of optimism.
