Wirtshaus Gruber in Weitenegg is highly recommended, both for eating and as accommodation! Very nice! The old arms of the Danube right next to it are wonderful for swimming.
A Luipold Widenich was mentioned in documents in 1108. The county had a checkered ownership history from the end of the 12th century until 1513. The oldest components are from the 12th century. The structural extensions continued until the 17th century. In the middle of the 18th century the castle fell into disrepair. The eastern keep was almost completely demolished in 1870 and used as building material in the expansion of the Weitenegg ultramarine factory. The first security and restoration work took place around 1900.
