Melk Abbey - baroque world heritage in the Wachau
Melk Abbey is one of the most beautiful and largest unified baroque ensembles in Europe. Its magnificent architecture is known worldwide and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Benedictine monks have lived and worked in this place in an uninterrupted tradition since 1089.

The area of the monastery library accessible on the museum tour, consisting of the main room and an adjoining room, was once "the" library of the monastery when it was set up in 1735. But as early as 1768 it was expanded to include the “Upper Library”, the so-called “Bergl Rooms”, two rooms that were accessed from the adjoining room by installing a spiral staircase and are not included in the museum tour. Both areas, the original library with the main and side rooms and the "new" library with a room for the natural history book collection and a room for the natural history cabinet, form the Melk Baroque Library, which offers visitors a special spatial experience through a representative arrangement of the books in the late Baroque ensemble conveyed.
