From 1803 to 1811, General Joseph Morand, appointed by Napoleon to administer Corsica, used the structure as a prison, where insurgents, royalists, and Corsican bandits were imprisoned and sometimes tortured. A local curse: "Che tu sia chjusu in Pasciola!" - That you are imprisoned in Pasciola! - illustrates the abuses perpetrated there during this dark period.

Pasciola, the fortified tower of Vivariu, was built in 1771 to ensure travel safety and communication between detachments of the French royal forces. It housed a garrison of about fifty men, as well as artillery.

This charming 16th-century village is surrounded by the Marmanu and Sorba forests. The village once marked the end of the long Mare è Monti Livantinu hiking trail. The route now extends to Vivario. Don't miss the Neptune Fountain in the village center.

A narrow path follows the river, always following the blue markings. It's very beautiful and partially shaded. Fantastic!

Where did this happen? I'm here at the campsite and have two dogs, and I can't stand this kind of thing. It just happened in Italy.
