The Heinrich Schliemann Terrace in Schwerin offers one of the most beautiful views over the Pfaffenteich lake and the surrounding city center. From the elevated promenade, a panorama unfolds that encompasses both the picturesque shoreline and the city's historic buildings. Particularly impressive is the view of Schwerin Cathedral, whose tower rises majestically above the water, and the lakeside promenade with its cafes, green spaces, and walking paths.

The Pfaffenteich in Schwerin is a centrally located body of water in the heart of the city and is one of its most famous landmarks. It was artificially created in the Middle Ages and originally served as a millpond. Today, the approximately twelve-hectare Pfaffenteich is a popular spot for walks and relaxation. Surrounded by historic buildings, it offers a picturesque view of Schwerin's skyline with the imposing cathedral in the background. The lakeside promenade is particularly charming, with cafés and benches inviting visitors to linger. In summer, small boats cruise the pond, and events and festivals are regularly held here – a lively meeting place for locals and visitors alike.

The Schwerin Palace Gardens are among the most beautiful gardens in Northern Germany, situated directly on the shores of Lake Schwerin and surrounded by the fairytale-like Schwerin Palace. Designed in the 19th century in the style of an English landscape garden, they impress visitors with their expansive lawns, magnificent flowerbeds, mature tree-lined avenues, and artful water features. Particularly worth seeing are the orangery, the palace bridge, and the numerous sculptures that lend the gardens an elegant flair. The palace gardens invite leisurely strolls and offer picturesque views of the palace and the surrounding lakes – a place where history, art, and nature blend harmoniously.

The lake lies between the Lower Ostorf Lake and the larger Schwerin Lake and is surrounded by dense groups of trees, reed beds, and meadows. From the surrounding paths and viewpoints, there are expansive views across the water, which displays different moods depending on the season.

The Cross Canal in Schwerin Palace Gardens is one of the most impressive design elements of the historic park surrounding Schwerin Palace. It was created in the 18th century as part of the Baroque redesign of the palace gardens and reflects the spirit of that era, in which symmetry, perspective, and the connection between architecture and nature played a central role. The canal gets its name from its cruciform shape: two straight watercourses intersect at right angles, forming a geometric center that blends harmoniously into the overall composition of the garden. Charming vistas open up from the banks of the Cross Canal – on the one hand, to the magnificent Schwerin Palace, and on the other, to the expansive garden areas, avenues, and vistas that extend in all directions. The Cross Canal served not only as an ornamental feature but also as a way to showcase water as a dynamic design element. The smooth water reflected the surrounding trees, sculptures, and garden architecture, creating a play of light and reflection that is particularly captivating as the seasons change. Today, the Kreuzkanal (Cross Canal) is one of the most popular spots in Schwerin Palace Gardens. It invites visitors to linger and stroll, while also offering a vivid impression of the Baroque garden design that is still preserved and cultivated in Schwerin.
