The St. Gangolf Church in the center of the village was originally built in 1719 as a replacement for an older chapel that was located on the site of the later vicarage. Due to a fire, it was massively rebuilt with stone in 1854 and received its current appearance.

The grotto "Our Lady of Lourdes" was suggested in 1938 by Father Franz Darcis. The Schönberg clergyman had expressed the wish to create a modest Lourdes grotto in the rectory garden. The community then came up with a plan to build a public pilgrim grotto. So they began to dig a grotto into the mountain with pickaxes and shovels. This project proved to be very laborious, so it was decided to commission a Flemish company to complete the grotto. A Way of the Cross was laid out on the hill behind the grotto, which initially consisted of Schönberg's seven footfalls. Later, an entire complex was made out of it. Today, the 14 stations are looked after throughout the year by several families from Schönberg and the surrounding area. The ensemble was inaugurated in 1939. Calvary and grotto are the destination of numerous pilgrims every year on August 15th (Assumption of Mary) for an afternoon and candlelight procession.
