Haydau Monastery was originally built in 1235 as a Cistercian nunnery and converted into a castle for the Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel around 1600. From 1985 to 2001, the monastery was renovated and now serves as a venue for conferences, congresses, art and cultural events, weddings, and family celebrations.

The cycle path offers a varied route through nature and culture, crossing the Fulda floodplains near Kassel, a near-natural reserve with numerous birdlife. The route is predominantly gently sloping, making it suitable for a wide audience, although alternative routes are recommended during flooding.

A well-maintained park with parking

Beautifully landscaped park with all sorts of places to relax and shaded by mature trees. "The Rotenburg Castle Park was created in the 16th century and remains a magical park right next to the Landgrave's Castle in the heart of the city. Walking paths lead along the mature trees and past flowering beds. Rare plant species enrich the area. The park features the popular swing forest, a playground, and a miniature golf course; on hot days, it's a wonderful place to be active in the shade of the mature trees. The former castle park café, now a listed building, now houses a brewery pub with a wonderful beer garden."

The castle park, which has only been open to the general public for around 100 years, is home to botanical features from all over the world. The Rotenburg castle park was created in the 16th century and has undergone many changes over the course of its history. Most interventions have been to its detriment. Located in the middle of the city, it has repeatedly been a preferred building site for municipal and state buildings. For many years, Ms. Brigitte Hallenberger has been working on identifying trees and shrubs that have survived these interventions as exotic species and were often in danger of being removed. Many specimens certainly date back to the Landgrave era, but nothing is known about when they were planted. Some are very rare and cannot even be found in the Wilhelmshöhe mountain park today. More exotic plants are to be planted in the coming years, thus helping to raise awareness of the castle park in the old Landgrave town of Rotenburg a. d. The Fulda cycle path is very well developed and offers a lot of variety when cycling. There is always something new for cyclists to discover. It is very popular, and rightly so. At weekends and on public holidays, that means it gets busy.
