To the right of the Carl Braun Hut, near the bench, a steep trail winds through the forest, amidst leaves and branches. If you don't stray from the trail (like I did 🙈), you'll emerge above the ICE bridge near Adelshausen.

The castle park, which has only been open to the general public for around 100 years, is home to botanical features from all over the world. The Rotenburg castle park was created in the 16th century and has undergone many changes over the course of its history. Most interventions have been to its detriment. Located in the middle of the city, it has repeatedly been a preferred building site for municipal and state buildings. For many years, Ms. Brigitte Hallenberger has been working on identifying trees and shrubs that have survived these interventions as exotic species and were often in danger of being removed. Many specimens certainly date back to the Landgrave era, but nothing is known about when they were planted. Some are very rare and cannot even be found in the Wilhelmshöhe mountain park today. More exotic plants are to be planted in the coming years, thus helping to raise awareness of the castle park in the old Landgrave town of Rotenburg a. d. The “Hessenallee” recreational area in Heinebach was renovated in the Eisfeldstrasse area. It was not without controversy that some dilapidated trees had to be felled on the park-like site for this project. The result is a multi-generational area with play equipment for children, an outdoor fitness area with various training equipment, a bocce playing area, benches and shelters, etc. and a multi-functional field was built adjacent to the festival grounds.
