Below the entrance to the Protestant church in Wehrheim stands the imposing Fountain of Friendship. It was erected in 1994 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the town's twinning with Werischwar (Hungarian: Pilisvörösvár). The church was built in 1779/80 (see the lunette of the main portal and the lintel of the east entrance). It stands east-west on a slightly elevated spot in the middle of the old churchyard, which served as a burial site until the mid-19th century and whose western wall follows the course of the older defensive line (see Grabengasse). The mighty, square-plan east tower was constructed from 300 sandstone blocks from the defensive tower of Philippseck Castle near Münster / Wetterau, whose buildings had been sold for demolition since 1773.
