The 800-hectare "Kasten" forest area around the forester's lodge of the same name forms an important part of Munich's green belt. The site has been owned by the Heilig-Geist-Spital Munich and the associated foundation since 1308 and thus for more than 800 years. It is administered by the municipal department of the state capital. The history of the forester's house as an inn and beer garden goes back to 1899, when snacks were initially sold to hikers. Today, a spacious beer garden resides here along with an equally huge parking lot, children's playground, musicians' stage and everything that goes with it.
