In the summer, the Klosterhofspiele (Monastery Courtyard Plays) take place in the monastery's inner courtyard. Each year, there's a play for children and usually an entertaining classic for adults. Langenzenn passed into the possession of the Nuremberg burgraves from the House of Hohenzollern around 1248. The monastery, dedicated to Saint Mary, was founded in 1409 by John III and Frederick VI, burgraves of Nuremberg; it was dissolved in 1533 during the Reformation. In the ZennOase on Försterallee, interested Langenzenn residents have jointly created the first beds of the "edible city" of Langenzenn. Public green spaces are planted with local fruit, vegetables and herbs instead of flowerbeds or lawns. The edible plants are educational, ecologically valuable and can also be harvested.
