Steep hill - worth it for the cafe at the top!

The Dunstable Downs Gateway Centre offers stunning views, informative exhibits, and many walks. Café is great for a quick bite. Perfect for kite flying!

It's also a very short distance, across a main road, to Dunstable Downs and a coffee with a view at the Visitor Centre.

Castle Mound offers stunning panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. From the top of this ancient motte-and-bailey fortification, you can see the town of Dunstable itself, as well as the rolling hills and farmlands that stretch out into the distance. On a clear day the view can reach as far as the Chiltern Hills to the northwest, providing a beautiful mix of urban and rural landscapes.

Ivinghoe Beacon is at the start of the Icknield Way and you get a nice view of it from here

From this hilltop vantage point you get a great view of the London Gliders Club. The club was established in 1930 and provides a vibrant community of gliders a place to soar through the sky.

One could easily mistake this object, which stands in the middle of the lawn and is called the "Windcatcher", for a sculpture by an artist in a modern style. However, it is not primarily an art object, but rather a functional building. The functional building is part of a ventilation system.

Moderate trail with amazing views of Hertfordshire

From up here, you are treated to beautiful valley views from a height of 561 feet (171 m). This viewpoint lies on the Icknield Way Path and is just a short hop from Ivinghoe Beacon, the termination of the Ridgeway National Trail.

Beautiful Views and the N/T Cafe

The lion was carved into the hills overlooking Dunstable Downs close to Whipsnade Zoo in 1931-33. Some say it was to remind pilots not to fly too low when crossing the zoo so they didn't scare the animals, others that it was an elaborate advert. In 2017/18 the lion was refurbished with a donated 800 tonnes of chalk so now it can be appreciated from quite some distance.
