In front of you, you can see the large ramparts on the meadow west of the current Hindsgavl Castle. These are the remains of the original Hindsgavl Castle, probably built by King Erik Klipping as a royal castle around 1260.

The church was built in 1200 and went through the same development as most other old churches: originally Romanesque round-arch style, which later changed to Gothic pointed arch style. Initially the church had a nave and a choir. Around 1300 the tower was added, a little later (around 1400) the chapel, then the side aisles, then the vault, and finally in 1667 the porch of the church.
