Colyford Filling Station, built in 1927-8 to the designs of Frederick Kett. Grade II listed building.

A mile-long beach with a mix of sand and shingle, clear water, and a gently sloping shore. It's a great place for swimming, water sports, and walking.

It's a bridge over troubled waters

The Axe estuary flows inland as far as the River Coly near Colyford. This section from Seaton to Axmouth is tidal and an important mud flat habitat for birds, shellfish and insects.

Great cafe with a fully stocked bike shop selling anything from tools, clothing, computers to full bikes. Lovely coffee and cake with some cheese and dog treats for the dog! Highly recommend for all audiences. Will be coming back …

A great place to park and enjoy the view across the estuary to Seaton Wetlands. You can park alongside the estuary and have a drink at The Harbour Inn

If the tides out walk up the estuary and spot the trams and birds, picking up any litter as you go

From the Island Hide, you have a near-360 degree view across this salt lagoon, which was previously drained agricultural land. Look out for oystercatchers, black-tailed godwits and ringed plovers searching for crustacean and mollusc snacks!

A wonderful packhorse bridge, Beckford Bridge spans the River Yarty in the Blackdown Hills AONB to the north west of Axminster. Made from local rubble stone, this Grade II-listed span is in remarkably good condition, thanks to a modern bridge taking traffic. You can walk over the old bridge although it's best admired from the new one.

There's a ford and a footbridge here, just west of Colyton on the River Coly. The crossings are surrounded by farmland in a blissfully rural setting. The Coly is lazy here, adding to the picturesque nature of the area. The Channel to Channel footpath and East Devon Way both pass by/use the bridge.

This seaside town has a fantastic seafront and is often quieter than some of the other towns along this section of Lyme Bay. The long pebble beach is ideal for swimming from and has impressive cliffs on either side. There are cafes and shops in the town, which lies immediately behind the seafront. The Channel to Channel Path begins here, leading north, to the Bristol Channel. The South West Coast Path also passes through on its lengthy journey between Poole and Minehead.

An old bridge over the Coly River, on the way into (or out of) Colyford. Some nice views over the river and floodplain to the east.

An excellent little cycle café and bike shop, often with cycling on screen, serving good coffee, cakes and bacon sandwiches. The building is an old garage and its listed. There are still several historical petrol pumps outside on the forecourt.
