The Karsthans Church in Täbingen is the church of the Evangelical parish of Täbingen, Dautmergen, and Zimmern unter der Burg in the Balingen deanery of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg. It is named after the Reformation-era itinerant preacher and Freiburg physician Hans Maurer, known as Karsthans. The building, constructed in late Neoclassical style, was erected in 1834/1835 next to the Romanesque tower of a predecessor church. The Protestant sanctuary is considered the most significant rural Neoclassical church in the Zollernalb district. The church entrance is on the east side, while the altar and sacristy are located on the west side. The building is surrounded to the south by a walled cemetery. To the east, the Kirchengässle (church lane), a footpath leading to the church and parsonage, runs along the wall. The parsonage, a half-timbered building dating from 1712, stands in front of the church (Oberland 9). A wooden chapel likely stood on the grounds of the St. Georgen Monastery's manor farm, directly adjacent to the site of the present-day church, as early as the 8th or 9th century. In the 11th century, it was replaced by a Romanesque chancel tower church dedicated to Saint Blaise, which was renovated in the 15th century. Until the Reformation, Täbingen belonged to the parish of Gößlingen, then to the parish of Leidringen. It became an independent parish in 1739. The dilapidated St. Blaise Chapel, used as the parish church, had thus become too small. In 1834/35, the church was rebuilt according to designs by building inspector Carl Christian Nieffer, retaining the old tower. Nieffer was considered a proponent of the functionalist style known as the "Kameralamtstil" (a style of building designed by the state government). Renovations took place in 1904 and 1967. In 1984, on its 150th anniversary, it was renamed Karsthans Church. This refers to the work of Hans Maurer, also known as Karsthans, a physician and itinerant preacher,[4] through whom Täbingen embraced the Reformation. Information panel: Tower of the former St. Blasius Chapel Stone building from the 11th century with a tower topped in Alemannic half-timbering from the 15th century. Once the altar area of a chancel tower chapel dedicated to the martyred bishop St. Blasius, it also served as a fortified watchtower for the village and a place of refuge for all those persecuted. It is also noteworthy as the place of prayer of the highly venerated "Blessed Hailwig of Täbingen" in the 15th century. From the 11th to the 13th centuries. The chapel of the local St. Gallen (later St. Georgen) monastery estate, a generous donation from Count Berthold in 793. Afterwards, until the nave was demolished in 1834, it served as the village church of Täbing (parish from 1739). Inside the tower, renovated in 1961 and 1986, is a memorial to the fallen. The tower grounds are an ancient burial site and were once also the site of court and community meetings, as well as the church's dedication festival. The site reflects 1200 years of Täbing's history (Psalms 84 and 90).
