The church is named after Saint Andrew, a disciple of Jesus. It was first mentioned in documents in 1140, but according to current knowledge it already existed before 1070, burned down in 1559 and a new church was built on the foundations within the next 40 years. It is one of the oldest churches in Dithmarschen. Since 2008, extensive renovation work has been carried out on the exterior and interior of the traditional church, which was completed in 2010. The church was reopened on October 3, 2010. In autumn 2013, the bells, which include the oldest bell in Dithmarschen, received new clappers, a new control system and some new motors. The forest café “Altes Forsthaus” in Heide is an idyllic café, hidden in the Heider Kreistannen and offers a perfect mix of peace, nature and culinary enjoyment. The products are prepared fresh and seasonally every day, which is reflected in the high quality of the food on offer. The café offers 40 seats indoors and many more outside, some of which are covered. This cozy atmosphere makes it an ideal place to relax after a walk in the forest. The fresh waffles with ice cream and hot cherries are particularly popular, as are the diverse cakes and tarts, such as rhubarb meringue cake, Black Forest cherry cake and the homemade Bienenstich. In addition to the café operation, the forest café is also a popular event location. Events such as musical readings, live concerts and art exhibitions are regularly organized. The café also offers rooms for private parties, weddings and corporate events and can be individually designed according to the guests' wishes.
