シュタットパルクは、街の城壁のすぐ前にあります。樹齢最大300年のシナノキやクリの木が育つ城壁や、市民庭園と合わせて、旧市街を囲む緑の輪を形成しています。かつては精巧な防御施設の一部であった、のどかなオベルトライヒもこれに含まれます。城壁の遊歩道からは、旧市街の家々の美しい景色が繰り返し見られます。

聖キリアクス大聖堂は、巨大なツインタワーの教会（ほぼ大聖堂）で、2015年に教皇フランシスコによってバシリカ・マイナーに昇格されました。

Dr. Hermann Iseke was born in 1856 in Holungen, the son of a farmer. In 1868, he attended high school in Heiligenstadt and then moved to Mühlhausen. In honor of his 100th birthday, his hometown of Holungen erected a memorial stone on the Sonnenstein on July 7, 1956. He died in 1907 in Kalkfontein, South Africa. His remains were transferred to his hometown of Holungen and buried on July 24, 1907.

It is only a few steps from the historic town hall to St. Cyriakus Church. You first notice the imposing westwork, the construction of which began in 1250 (early Gothic). The church was then completed in its current form in three major construction phases by 1490. The church initially only had one tower, however, and it was not until 1854 that a second tower was added to the westwork after a fire in the roof structure. The interior of the church is rich in works of art, the stonemasonry work (80 keystones in the vaulted ceiling) and the high altar from 1500 are particularly noteworthy. The St. Cyriakus Church was built at the highest point in the medieval town center and is therefore also called the upper church. In 2015, the St. Cyriakus Church received special recognition from Pope Francis.
