This stele commemorates the subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp in Berlstedt. In 1938, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp was built on the outskirts. The 250 prisoners living there had to do forced labor in the attached brickworks and sewage treatment plant, which belonged to the SS-owned German Earth and Stone Works (“DEST”). The board provides information about a special nature conservation project. Natura 2000 is a coherent network of protected areas within the European Union that has been established since 1992 in accordance with the provisions of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. Its purpose is the transnational protection of endangered wild native plant and animal species and their natural habitats. There is a station at the site that is also dedicated to the subject of field hamsters.

The Gothic hall church in the complex was built around 1500. It has an elongated nave, a three-sided end of the choir and a retracted church tower in the west. In the 17th century, also in 1702 and 1783, it was structurally changed (Wikipedia).
