This is the last agricultural distillery in the Benelux region and has been a family business for seven generations. The Vierakantshoeve houses a jenever distillery, a shop, a coffee house, a B&B, and 250 cattle. It's definitely worth a visit and enjoying a coffee and cake or pancakes. Beautiful and well-maintained building from the late 1800’s

This fun walk with challenges starts at Distillery Van Damme (Issegem 2, 9860 Oosterzele) and is perfect for children. Along the way, you'll meet Little Witch Lisa and her friend Sem. Together they search for the witches' brooms that always disappear on Witches' Broom Fly Away Day.

The Oosterzele landscape still bears many silent witnesses to WWII. The bunkers dot the landscape, forming part of the "Bruggenhoofd Gent" bunker belt. This defensive line stretched from Astene (Deinze) to Kwatrecht (Wetteren). (Municipality of Oosterzele)

In 1862, farmer Henri De Backer established a jenever distillery on his square farm in Balegem (Oosterzele). Through the marriage of De Backer's daughter, the distillery passed to the Van Damme family in 1885, with whom Balegem jenever would be associated from then on. In 1898, the old distillery was replaced by a brand-new steam distillery. The steam engine was built by the Ghent-based company Le Phoenix, while the steam boiler was manufactured by Chaudronnerie Louis Fassin, also from Ghent. The plant, with the exception of a few pieces of equipment, is still in use. Today, Van Damme is the last remaining warm agricultural distillery in the Benelux. In 2010, the distillery was designated a protected monument. In addition to the distillery itself, the equipment, the accompanying farm, the cobblestone road, and the orchard were also protected. The first place of worship dating back to the Christian era and, according to tradition, founded by Saint Livinus. It was elevated to the status of parish church in 1230. After the tower collapsed in 1723, the old church was rebuilt in 1724-1726, with the tower being designed by Ghent native J. Motte. According to a 1778 plan drawn up for the church expansion (widening of the northern aisle), it was a three-aisled church with a transept, crossing tower, and a flat, closed choir and side aisles. Commissioned by the mayor, the Marquis of Rode, Rodriguez de Évora y Vega, a new church was built in the second quarter of the 19th century, designed by Ghent architect Louis Minard. The new church was built on the site of the old one, retaining the former crossing tower in the new east facade. The church was now oriented west instead of east, and demolition materials from the old church were likely reused. (Inventory of Immovable Heritage)

The war memorial in Oosterzele at the church commemorates military and civilian victims of the First and Second World Wars.
