Centrally at the summit stands an imposing multi-stemmed linden. This tree still has an old trunk base (approximately 2 meters in diameter) with parts of the original residual wall of the previous hollow tree. Several new trunks grew from this residual wall and from trunk base suckers, which now once again form a beautiful, full crown atop the tumulus. Roman tumulus with a diameter of approximately 20 to 25 meters. The burial mound is located approximately one and a half kilometers from the Roman villa complex of Hemelrijk. In 1863, H. Schuermans and A. conducted excavations there, during which a rectangular burial chamber (2.18 by 2.05 meters) was discovered in the mound. The burial mound partially covered the remains of the funeral pyre southeast of the burial chamber. A wealth of gifts were recovered from the burial chamber: terra sigillata bowls, burnt iron fragments, terra nigra, glass, beads in glass paste, bone and bronze objects, and coins of Faustina I, Tiberius, and Hadrian. Based on the finds, the burial mound could be dated between the second half of the 2nd century and the beginning of the 3rd century. The tumulus of Bortombe is situated on a hill, and anyone who appreciates a listed ancient burial mound (Roman artifacts were found in the tomb) with a listed lime tree on it will have to sacrifice paved walking paths. But that's the case for most walks in the area, and it doesn't bother me. It's always nice to have a bench and enjoy the views.

The mill is known by several names, including Jeancour Mill, Janshoven Mill, and Grégoire Mill. Take a walk to the building, even if the mill itself is unused. You'll see the stream meandering beautifully, the buildings are all worth a visit, and you can greet the goats and other horses. It's worth the detour.

Tuff stone building, almost entirely constructed during the second half of the 13th century; massive tower, three naves of three bays each, and a rectangular choir flanked by sacristies. A closed tower with three stories, later fitted with strong corner buttresses; an inaccessible ground floor, covered with ribbed vaults featuring a beautiful keystone with a relief depicting the Paschal lamb; the upper floors are accessible via stairs in the east and south walls. The nave is connected to the aisles by distinctive round arches, the profile of which continues uniformly down to the floor; small, off-axis basket-arch windows under the flat ceiling. The aisles were rebuilt in 1925 on the foundations of the earlier ones, which were destroyed at the end of the 18th century; a Neo-Romanesque entrance portal. A two-bay deep choir in Gothic style, on a rectangular plan similar to that of Walsbets, with five simple two- or three-light windows. Restoration by architect Dehaies in 1925 (facade stone in the choir). Furniture. Two paintings in the choir (17th or 18th century); on the south side altar, a folkloric statue of Saint Amand (17th century). Block altar of sandstone decorated with geometric motifs, supposedly Merovingian but probably from the 10th century (?), baptismal font in Romanesque tradition (13th or 14th century). Also visible is the private driveway that begins on Wezerenstraat, near the former municipal school and teacher's residence. It is enclosed by a gate and can be seen between the photos.

A bit about the surrounding area (which, like the farm, is protected). According to the original land registry, the farm included a vegetable garden to the north with a copse behind it, two hedged orchards, and a field to the east, and a second vegetable garden to the west in the 19th century. The plots north of the farm were transformed around 1836 by notary Dubois into a small manor farm park in a landscaped style. It was a pleasure garden with a gently sloping topography, a deep center in the central lawn to broaden the perspective, a wide belt of trees, several solitary trees, a pond, a "shade house" near the only remaining park tree, and a "mound." The mound was an artificial earthen embankment at the edge of the park. Flower parterres, possibly with garden ornaments, likely completed the ensemble. Around 1954, the park was cleared and the plot subdivided. The largest part was converted into pasture, and a small ornamental garden was created behind the house. With the exception of a majestic weeping beech and a white horse chestnut, all the park trees were felled, the artificial belt behind the trees was excavated, and the pond northeast of the farm was filled in. The standard orchard, which could no longer compete with the emerging standard orchards, was cleared for arable land in 1963. Today, the ornamental garden is separated from the street by a low brick wall under a donkey's back. On the other sides, the ornamental garden is enclosed by a beech hedge. The original layout from 1954 has been well preserved and is characterized by a narrow terrace at the rear facade of square, yellow-orange ceramic tiles and bluestone edging, a circular flowerbed along the axis of the front door with a monumental silver fir, and adjacent to it an L-shaped lawn with another apple, cherry, and horse chestnut tree. The paths, lined with red mine grit, are bordered by decorative concrete borders with a lobed pattern. An imposing magnolia stands against the rear facade. In the northwest corner of the former manor farm park, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Banneux was erected in 1954. The chapel stands on four rubble stone steps and is surrounded by, among other things, boxwood, maple, and two lime trees. Both the farm and its surroundings are protected. Some information about the farm is provided below. A closed farm dating from around 1800, comprising a house, stables, and barn surrounding a square courtyard, enclosed on the street side by a gatehouse. The complex dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The gatehouse essentially consists of a large, heavy limestone arch between lower, blank walls. Notable is the presence of a domestic altar in a northern room on the first floor of the residential building. The altar is located in a wall cupboard behind closed doors. According to the owner at the time of the protected designation, the year 1858 is inscribed above the entrance gate to the barn. The complex forms an interesting and homogeneous ensemble, the various buildings constructed in a very business-like style. The brick walls are only enlivened by the heavy limestone frames of the windows, doors, and gates.
