Federal highway with difficult access

The nuclear power plant was shut down (license withdrawn) because the site was deemed to be too low in terms of seismic hazard. In other countries, technical improvements are made in such cases. In Germany, the licensing process would have had to start all over again, and political resistance was growing. The total costs of construction, decommissioning, legal disputes, and dismantling are likely to be in the range of more than €7 billion to €8 billion, depending on the estimate. Here, a cycle path runs parallel to the A48 over the bridge, making it easy to cross the Rhine. But be careful: on the left bank, you access the bridge via a ramp; on the right bank, you have to carry your bike up the stairs.

In good weather, it's simply wonderful. Various parks along the Rhine invite you to take a relaxing break.

The Koblenz Gate was built around 1200 and served as the "entrance" to Andernach. The entire castle complex is well preserved and worth seeing.
