ミュールハウゼンで最も古い内側の市壁は約2.8キロメートル（現存するのは2.2キロメートル）で、約50ヘクタールの面積を囲んでいました。この面積は、やや丸みを帯びた不均一な長方形をしており、東西の最大延長（1000メートル）は南北の最大延長（500メートル）のほぼ2倍でした。その元の構成要素には、北東のゲオルマルトール、南東のエアフルトター、南西のフェルヒタートー、そしてマリアン教会（フラウエン教会）にちなんで名付けられた北西のフラウエントーの4つの主要な門、およびおそらく4つの小さな門が含まれていました。それらは、北側のイーゼルスポルテとブルクスポルテ、ブルンネンクレッセ通り出口にある名前不詳の門、そして南側のシュピールベルク通りに通じると思われるもう一つの門です。 城への元の主要なアクセスが、1251年以前の城と市の間の壁の建設時にすでに閉鎖されたのか、それとも1256年以降の城の解体後に閉鎖されたのかは不明です。 内側（そして後に外側）の市壁、門、塔の材料としては、ミュールハウゼンで産出されここで採掘されたトラバーチン、すなわち地質学的に若い淡水石灰岩が使用されました。 内側の市壁は、二重壁構造で造られました。胸壁までの厚さは約1.5メートルから、例外的にしか達しない最大2メートルの間で変動します。 出典: https://www.muehlhausen.de/tourismus/erkunden/sehenswuerdigkeiten/besondere-baudenkmaeler/stadtmauer/

Mühlhausen is known as "Muhlhusia turrita," the tower-adorned Mühlhausen, which once boasted 59 towers adorning its churches and city walls. Eleven medieval churches and a preserved inner city wall with numerous defensive towers allow visitors to experience the tower-adorned Mühlhausen of the modern era. They will find not only sacred spaces but also the unique secular uses of church buildings, such as the city library, museums, and theaters. The old town is the second largest area monument in Thuringia, which observant visitors can identify by its red street signs. Here, the promenade is a lovely place to stroll, and on weekdays, there's also a wide selection of good snacks. At the end, the highlight, St. Mary's Church, awaits.

The Unstrut Cycle Path, which you can also hike, leads from Mühlhausen through the Sachsensiedlung to the "Unstruttal," the beautiful Ammern district, past OBI, the Im Sande nature reserve, under the new 247b bypass, to Reiser district. Along the Unstrut, through the railway viaduct into the wonderful Reiser Valley with the former imperial palace of Tutensode, a rest area, then through the second railway viaduct past the interesting sculptures to Dachrieden district, or before that, turn left into Reiser Hagen. I highly recommend it for cyclists 🚴🏻‍♂️ and hikers 🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♂️
