For a good half of the twentieth century, Signa hosted a dynamite factory which played a central role in supplying the Italian Army during the two world wars. In the plant, which was difficult to detect by military aviation, very solid buildings were built, streets, avenues and squares were laid out and tunnels dug. The production had exclusively war characteristics. During the First World War, the plant mainly produced explosives for large-caliber cannon ammunition. In the years preceding the Second World War, the factory once again played an important military role; the production of explosives resumed (again based on nitroglycerine) and many new buildings were built and even a train with small wagons that transported the material between the various pavilions and then downstream to the railway and of which some sections of the rails remain which in the The last stretch is located on reinforced concrete pylons, which are also attacked by vegetation, like many other building structures.
