When a house bears the name "Jammer Pepi" and has its own bus stop, it makes me curious. As it turns out, a place steeped in history. -- Josepha Jammer was the daughter of a toll collector's assistant in Baden. When he died in 1813 during the Battle of Leipzig, Josepha's mother received a coffee license from Archduke Anton in the toll house, where her father worked, near the Urtelstein Tunnel at the beginning of the Helenental Valley. Her daughter took over the job. Josepha had a friend named Schorsch, who came from Bavaria but presumably deserted there. Schorsch worked as the first toll-marker at Café Scheiner, where he was very popular. With the help of Baron Sina, a regular at Café Scheiner, Schorsch was able to save up a large amount of money. When the café was sold, Schorsch wanted to marry Josepha. However, since he couldn't get his papers from Bavaria, this marriage wasn't possible for the time being. Only through the intervention of the Bavarian Archduchess Hildegarde, who was a frequent guest of Josepha's, was it possible to marry. Josepha was already 55 years old. They even went on a honeymoon to Bavaria. They managed the household together. However, the stock market crash of 1873 deprived them of their savings. In the winter, Josepha made landscapes from moss and tree bark or knitted. Pepi died in 1893, a few months after Schorsch, who died in 1892. She was buried in the Helenenfriedhof Cemetery in Baden.

Now in summer, the damage from the autumn floods is no longer visible. Quite the opposite: when the water level is low, those suffering from the heat seek cooling in the Schwechat.

Heiligenkreuz Abbey, with its significant history and beautiful buildings, is worth a visit. Many parts of the abbey can only be visited with a guided tour. The squares and churches are freely accessible.
