The southern, old pass road from St. Leonhard is more scenic. It's quiet, through the forest, traffic-free, and offers fantastic views. However, the entry is a bit steeper.

Merano's city center forms the historical and cultural heart of the spa town, combining medieval alleyways with the elegant flair of the Habsburg Belle Époque. At its heart is Laubengasse, a traditional shopping street with arcades, small boutiques, and cafés that has shaped the town's life since the Middle Ages. Next to it stands the Parish Church of St. Nicholas with its striking Gothic tower, while the magnificent Art Nouveau Kurhaus on the Passer promenade recalls Merano's heyday as a sophisticated spa town. The Merano Thermal Baths, with their pools and extensive park, add a modern touch. The promenades along the Passer River and the panoramic Tappeinerweg promenade are ideal for strolling, while the Stone Bridge, a medieval bridge over the river, showcases the town's long history.
