In 1860, the planting of cedars, pines and linden trees and the creation of walking paths began. On the occasion of a visit by the Austrian imperial court and in honor of Empress Elisabeth's daughter, the park was initially named "Marie-Valerie Park" in 1870. In the following years, it was embellished with water features and a music pavilion. The marble statue of the Empress was erected in 1903. Today, the park is called "Elisabeth Park" and is part of the summer promenade.

Along this beautiful path between Avelengo and Avelengo di Sopra you can see a waterfall and several references (including statues, display panels and others) to horses: Avelengo is in fact known for being the cradle of origin of the Avelignese horse breed, or Haflinger. It is characterized by a ginger-colored coat and a very light mane and tail.

Merano is a small but very nice spa town in the heart of South Tyrol. 40,000 inhabitants whose native language is German and Italian ensure a mix of cuisine, culture, languages and customs. Merano is also known for its beautiful weather.
