Cremona's "Annicco Boat": The Annichetta. This imposing 37-meter-long reinforced concrete structure, shaped like a ship, has served as the symbol and calling card of the municipality of Annicco (Cremona) for over 60 years. Originally built in 1962 as a cattle stable by Milanese industrialist Osvaldo Bottini, who wanted to create a unique and recognizable building for his farmhouse, it is now a local icon.

The building was constructed in the thirteenth century outside the ancient Roman city and, together with the Church of Sant'Agata, formed the core of the new urban expansion in the Middle Ages, desired by the "bourgeois" faction, as opposed to the "notables," who centered their power in the Piazza del Comune. The new palace served as the meeting place for the "Società del Popolo," where the Populists elected their consuls and conducted their business. Inspired by the architecture of the Palazzo Comunale, it stands in the square with a two-story façade: the lower story consists of a portico with Gothic arches, while the upper story is constructed of brick and crowned with crenellations, and four triple lancet windows illuminate a single large room. Pizzighettone boasts one of the best-preserved city walls in Lombardy.
