The Fish Ladder • Background: This structure was built to make an existing weir passable for fish and other aquatic organisms. It restores the "continuity of the watercourse," allowing fish to migrate to their spawning grounds. • Construction: The fish ladder was designed to blend naturally with riprap and integrates well into the floodplain landscape. It is located at weir 15 in Münchendorf.

Why is it called the "Sheep Bridge"? The name derives from the historical use of the surrounding meadows. In the past, flocks of sheep were often grazed in the extensive floodplains of the Triesting River. The bridge allowed shepherds to safely drive their animals from one bank to the other without having to cross the deeper sections of the river.

The Triesting Valley Cycle Path (often referred to as part of the Triesting-Gölsen Valley Cycle Path) is one of Lower Austria's top cycling routes. It connects directly to the Triestingau Cycle Path and takes you deeper into the Vienna Woods and towards the Mostviertel region.

This is a waterway crossing where a canal (the millrace) is routed over another road or body of water. In the region around Oberwaltersdorf, Trumau, and Teesdorf, there are several such locations where water is transported "over one another." • Function: The millrace was originally constructed to harness the water power of the Triesting River for the burgeoning industry (primarily cotton mills like the one in Oberwaltersdorf). • Engineering: Because the terrain in the Vienna Basin is very flat, canals often had to be constructed with artificial dams or bridges (viaducts) to maintain the necessary gradient for the factory waterwheels.

The column commemorates three key figures in Austrian history closely associated with the Cistercian Order: 1. Margrave Leopold III (the Saint): The patron saint of Lower Austria and Vienna, and the founder of Heiligenkreuz Abbey (1133). 2. Margrave Leopold IV (the Generous): Son of Leopold III, who significantly supported his father's foundation. 3. Bishop Otto of Freising: Also a son of Leopold III, he was an important historian of the Middle Ages and himself entered the Cistercian Order as a monk.

The Triestingau Cycle Path (also known as Route 9a) is a beautiful, flat, and family-friendly cycle route in Lower Austria, stretching for approximately 32 kilometers between Schönau an der Triesting and Schwechat. It is considered a quiet and nature-oriented alternative to the often busier Thermal Spa Cycle Path (EuroVelo 9).
