History of the fountain in the main square of the town of Gföhl. The fountain itself is in the Neo-Gothic style and was erected in 1870 according to a design by Karl Rösner. From 1999 onwards, the main square was redesigned under the direction of architect Gerhard Mitterberger at a cost of 9.3 million Austrian schillings. The winery today belongs to the Cistercian Abbey of Zwettl in the Waldviertel region, which acquired the castle from a nobleman in 1740. Gobelsburg Castle in Lower Austria's Kamptal Valley is not only a historic building, but also one of Austria's oldest and most renowned wineries.
