Much suggests that the "pulpit" was an advanced, only lightly fortified watchtower of Nordeck Castle. The absence of mortared masonry points to dry stone walls or timber construction. From there, one still has a remarkable view into the Steinach Valley.

There used to be up to 150 sawmills along the streams in the Franconian Forest valleys. The sawmill at the blast furnace in the Steinach Valley ceased operation in 1980.

The Grünbürg was a medieval triple ring wall at the entrance to the Steiachtal. If you can believe the signs, it was one of the most beautiful. The moats are still clearly visible, even if nothing else is left.
