A place of fortifications, nature and legends, the area of the Monte Acuto fortress, commonly known as the Roccaccia, because of a nobleman who tyrannized over the local population, is located on a rock formation between two valleys, at 740 meters above sea level. Of this ancient fortress today only a few remains of a tower and sections of masonry remain standing, erected in these places considered safe during the war between the Byzantines and the Lombards. Numerous legends are still told of mysterious weavers, of hens that laid golden eggs, of snakes guarding hidden treasures, tales of battles along the Potenza river valley below, but also stories of sanctity, such as that of the young Santa Sperandia who lived in solitude in a cave right on these mountains. A wild kingdom due to its isolation, for this reason so loved by hermits, but particularly beautiful and full of views that today represents the border between the municipalities of San Severino Marche, Treia and Cingoli.

In the hills just outside Treia, you can enjoy a splendid view of the plateau that gradually turns into hills. In the distance, towards the west, you can admire the small group of Mount Acuto.

The name of the town has origins that date back to the Greek-Sicilian divinity Trea-Jana, venerated in the ancient Roman town of Trea. This city, which became a municipality in the mid-1st century BC. after having been a prefecture since 268 BC. with the conquest of Piceno, it extended into ancient Rome along the Via Prolaquense, one kilometer west of the modern city, currently occupied by the Sanctuary of the Santissimo Crocifisso. The original parish church of the sanctuary was built on the remains of the temple of Isis. The sanctuary houses a fifteenth-century crucifix considered miraculous, attributed according to tradition to an angel. Treia is famous for the game of bracelet ball, an ancient sport practiced by the nobility but also followed with enthusiasm by the people. From Treia you have a beautiful view of the silent Marche, simultaneously embracing the view of the sea and the Sibillini mountains.

Background These are the caves where the Benedictine nun, patron saint of Cingoli, born in Gubbio, lived. S. Sperandia (co-patroness of Cingoli, lived between 1216 and 1276) leads a life of prayer and penance in the narrow cave, interwoven, according to popular tradition, with miraculous events. The cave was arranged with the stone pavement, the parapet walls and the access stairway during the second half of the century. XX. The construction of the chapel can be traced back to the century. To reach the cave, take the provincial road that from Cingoli leads to San Severino Marche, after passing the town of Colcerasa, you will find a first intersection on the left that leads to Macerata, about 200 meters further on, always on the left, you will find another road that goes up, follow it for about 5 kilometers and follow the signs. Of course, the last stretch can only be covered on foot and the path leading to the caves is steep and with many steps. To get to the hermitage located along a rocky wall it is necessary to make 430 steps of which the last 52 are very steep stone, the others are made with wooden railway sleepers.

In the San Lorenzo area, outdoor sports have been practiced for some time, such as Downhill, Cross Country, Cycle Hiking, Freeride and Slopestyle. This area has become a real Bike Park with different routes of varying difficulty that attract hundreds of sportsmen and fans of these sports.
