But is the walk to the beach really that risky and difficult?

The hike is not meant for the weak. It‘s rather a climb than a hike with passages which can lead to certain death of you slip.

6月 4, 2024, Cala Goloritzé
Cala Goloritzé is one of the most fascinating beaches in Sardinia. Born from a landslide in 1962, it is renowned for its imposing Aguglia, which rises 143 meters above the bay. Another unique feature is the natural arch that opens on the right side of the beach. Goloritzé can be reached by boat or via a path with a negative altitude difference of around 500 metres. Declared a natural monument of Sardinia in 1993, it was subsequently named a national monument in 1995.

Easy to moderately difficult hiking trail to Cala Goloritzé. Sturdy shoes are recommended. We walked the trail with our 5-year-old daughter. We also had our other daughter's backpack on our backs, which wasn't a problem. The long walk to the destination is rewarded with crystal-clear water. Only the way back took a little longer 😉

2月 13, 2024, Pedra Longa
Pedra Longa is a dolomite limestone block and a (broken) integral part of the huge Baunei plateau. Its “rock needle-like” shape rises up to a height of 128 m from the sea: it is one of the highest rocky peaks on the island that rises directly from the sea and was declared a natural monument in 1993.

10月 18, 2023, Cala Sisine
Cala Sisine is located at the end of a codula, essentially a canyon. In the past, it served as the bed of a river, but now it represents the mouth of a small stream that originates on the Golgo plateau in the Baunei supramonte. About 200 meters wide, Cala Sisine is framed by the sheer cliffs of the Overa greenhouse, which rise to over 500 meters above sea level. It is almost hugged by rocky headlands, while the gorge itself is adorned with ancient carob and holm oak trees. The waters show off changing turquoise shades thanks to the play of light that is reflected in them. The seabed is composed of sand of light limestone pebbles and rounded stones.

This point offers a beautiful view of the sea and the bay. This wonderful cove must be earned, however. Bring enough water and be prepared for limited shade along the way. Climbing under the sun can be a real challenge. But despite all the difficulties, your efforts will be rewarded with fascinating views of the sparkling sea and the idyllic bay opening up among the dense vegetation. These moments, when the blue of the water shines through the trees, will make every drop of sweat worth it. From here it is also possible to reach Cala Goloritzé simply by following the path.

9月 23, 2023, View of Aguglia di Goloritzé
The Aguglia Tower. This imposing rocky pinnacle rises majestically and seems to touch the sky. Its rough limestone walls are reminiscent of the impressive formations of the Verdon and invite experienced climbers to take on technically demanding routes. You don't have to be a climber to appreciate the beauty of this natural monument. Even from a distance, for example from Cala Gonone, the silhouette of the Aguglia stands out clearly against the horizon. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to witness a rope team climbing the tower during a relaxing bathing trip. A sight that makes you feel both the power of nature and human ambition.

The path is challenging. On the way there, you may wonder whether the end of this seemingly endless descent will ever be in sight. As PeterStar aptly described it: The way down seems endless. But it's not just the descent that demands a lot from you. The journey back, especially under the scorching sun, is a test of body and will. Here, preparation is everything: pack enough water and be prepared for little shade along the way. Climbing in the heat can be a real challenge. But despite all the effort, your effort will be rewarded. Fascinating views of the sparkling sea and the idyllic bay always open up between the dense greenery. These snapshots, when the blue of the water shines through the trees, will make you worth every drop of sweat.

If you are looking for a hike that will reward you with breathtaking views, then Cala Goloritze is just the thing for you. This bay, hidden on the coast of Baunei in the Gulf of Orosei, is a true paradise and is one of the most impressive beaches in Sardinia. Getting there: Cala Goloritze can be reached either by boat or on foot. The hike offers you the opportunity to experience the impressive nature up close. However, keep in mind that it is a challenging descent of a good 500 meters. The path winds through bizarre rock formations and after about an hour leads you to a beach of fine white pebbles and sand, surrounded by turquoise blue water. The way back is more strenuous and can take up to 1.5 hours. Tips for the hike: Take at least 1 liter of water per person. Even more in warmer temperatures. Good hiking shoes are a must! A maximum of 150 people are allowed on the beach every day. You can reserve a ticket online in advance to ensure you get access. When you return, a nearby restaurant invites you to linger and enjoy. Special features of the bay: Cala Goloritze was formed by a landslide in 1962 and today boasts a natural arch and a 143-meter-high pinnacle that rises majestically above the bay. This beach was declared a "Natural Monument" of the Sardinia Region in 1993 and an "Italian National Monument" in 1995. Motorboats are not allowed to approach the beach to protect it from pollution and too many tourists. Impressions: The view of the white limestone cliffs that stand out against the intense blue of the water will quickly make you forget the strenuous walk. Here in Cala Goloritze, the heritage of nature mixes with human attentiveness, which makes the place so unique. Many Italians you meet along the way will confirm that you are in the right place.

Cala Goloritzè is a small, beautiful bathing bay surrounded by protective rocks in the east of Sardinia. A beautiful white pebble beach leads to its crystal-clear azure water. We parked at the free car park "Su Porteddu". "Entry" to Cala Goloritzè €6 per person. We were there at the beginning of September, and personally I found the beach a bit too crowded, even though the quota was limited to "only" 250 people. There were certainly more people there anyway 😅 The path is very rocky in places, so sturdy shoes are recommended. The paths are marked and direct access to the bay is provided by a wooden staircase.

Beautiful bay, with clear turquoise blue water. I walked the path myself during the summer holidays. The many Italians you meet were a sign for us that we were happy with this beach. Fortunately we have good weather, but I would be careful with the effort on the way back with temperatures of 30+ degrees. The path itself is doable, don't worry about it. There are so many people walking without walking shoes and they all come back up again. Tip: take extra water with you, if necessary a bottle from the freezer that stays cold for a long time. Furthermore, they allow a maximum of 150 people on the beach where you buy a ticket at the start of the walk. You can make a reservation for this (online).

7月 23, 2023, View of Aguglia di Goloritzé
The imposing Aguglia tower rises free above Cala Goloritzé, one of the most beautiful bays in Sardinia. Its limestone walls, similar to those in the Verdon, allow for unrivaled technical slab climbing in a fantastic setting.
