Immersed in the Quarazza Valley

Macugnaga is an alpine village located at the foot of the imposing eastern face of Monte Rosa. It was founded in the 13th century by the Walser, a people of German origin from the Swiss canton of Valais. Walser culture and traditions are still very much alive today in Macugnaga and are reflected in the architecture of the houses, in the traditional costumes worn by the women of the town on special occasions such as the San Bernardo fair and in the typical "Dorf", a small nucleus of houses dating back to the 13th century.

Very beautiful mountain pasture with houses now in disuse, but the mountain pasture is still used today by a shepherd. In the presence of the pack, pay attention to the guard dogs. Path B43 is the direct route to the mountain pasture but quite steep. It can otherwise be reached by descending from the Upper Floors.

A small natural lake of glacial origin, not too far from the Zamboni refuge. The lake area has been subject to some landslides in recent years and the path is sometimes closed. If in doubt, inquire at the refuge.

Stunning refuge at the foot of the eastern Monte Rosa, the only Himalayan style wall in the Alps. This refuge is easily accessible but also the starting point for other more challenging tours. Great reference point in the Belvedere area on the trail of the ski slopes and on the way to go to Zamboni and Lago delle Locce. Can be very busy, check availability in high season!
